August 4th, 2007
Moroso Motorsports Park, Jon Smith Series Moroso Motorsports Park is a four
hour drive for us making for a very long day to go down there and race and come
get back home in the same day Cody gets to sleep the whole way down there so he
would be well rested when we get to the track. The Moroso local series attracts
about seventy karts per race which compared to our home track of Ocala with
maybe thirty is was worth the drive so Cody would have more kids in his class
to race, Rotax Jr. This Jon Smith local series was to be at night making it an
even longer day. We left at four in the morning getting there about nine to
practice all day. Man was it hot there all day and we couldn't wait for the sun
to go down.
Practice went real well and we looked to be pretty fast. We
tried to take the hottest part of the afternoon easy sitting in the AC in the
truck. The race wasn't to start until six and I didn't want Cody worn out when
the time came to race.
Qualifying - Cody went out and turned
some very good laps qualifying third at 57.222 with the second place kart at
57.221 so he was real close to placing second.
Prefinal - Cody
started right behind Danny Formal who had the pole. Cody had a great start
pretty much all over Danny's rear bumper. From there the first three karts
including Cody pretty much checked out on the other thirteen karts. Cody
finished third and had a flawless race.
Final - Again Cody was
behind Danny on the grid and had another great start. He held second for the
first lap when Matthew Mair finally got by him for second place, all three
karts again check out on the rest of the field. Cody finished in third place
and again drove a pretty much flawless race.
Cody's starts improved
100% during this race I think we finally have the carb figured out to get him
off to good starts. Considering the kids who finished first and second have
five or six motors each and both have full time professional tuners I think
Cody did great. He's serving notice that it won't be long before he's sitting
on the pole and on the top step of the podium. |
