Cody Johnson Racing
Sept 8, 2007 Moroso Kart Track
We left at 6:30 am to make the 3 hour drive to Moroso for a Jon Smith night race, Cody gets to sleep all the way down and I get the driving chore. These night races at Moroso make for a very long day as we go down there and back in the same day to save on the hotel expenses.
We practiced most of the day after getting to the track which had very little grip from all the rain the last few days. About mid day we bolted on a new motor we wanted to test to see how much difference there was with Cody's motor. I should have learned by now not to race with motors we have practiced on but it was a chance to try what was supposed to be a killer JR motor. We got one section of practice in before practice ended before the race.
Qualifying: I missed on jetting the carb and was way to rich I think. Cody went out first for qualifying by the time he came around the grid area they where still letting JR's out on the track so he got caught behind some slow karts. Between my jetting mistake and getting caught behind a bunch of slow karts qualifying was a wash with Cody qualifying 9th out of 17.
Pre Final: I went down in jet size and Cody had a great start he went from 9th place to four place within the first couple laps. He was pulling up on the second and third place karts and with one more lap would have over taken both. He turned the second fastest lap of the pre final so we felt pretty good about the final.
Final: Was to be 15 laps with Cody starting 4th . Once again he got a great and by lap two was in second place holding it until lap 13 when the motor start acting up, he'd get back in the gas off a corner and it would just die. He held on for a fourth place finish which was great considering it was a very talented field of JR's. Needless to say he was very disappointed after the race he was not able to hold the second place position but he gave it 110% that's all I can ask of him.
Next up is two local races at Ocala Gran Prix this coming weekend and we look forward to being on our home track for a few races.
