WKA Florida Championship Race Ocala 7/2008

champion

Cody won three out of the five races in the series to become the WKA Florida State Champion.

This past weekend (7/19/08) was the 5th and last race of WKA Florida Championship series this season, the race was being held at OGP again. In my class it was going to come down to who ever wins out of the top 3 in points would win the championship. Fortunately for me I was sitting 1st in points only separated from second and third places by 10 points.

My weekend started out pretty normal I arrived at the track early Friday morning dropped my trailer off and help set up someone's kart the rest of the day. Come Saturday my kart was all ready to get out on the track and make some laps the first practice sessions of the day we were just fine tuning stuff and making minor changes to the kart

Qualifying: When Qualifying came around me and my tuner Dave put on some new Bridgestone's to try and get the best qualifying lap out there. My class had a really good turn out with 15 karts so there was a lot of compotation for me; I qualified 4th due fact we got the air pressure wrong in my tires.

Pre-final Before the 10 lap pre final we made a lot of changes to my kart and engine and where pretty confident that we where going to gain positions going in the pre-final. The start of the pre-final I was stuck on the outside in turn one and dropped a position to 5th as my tires came in I gradually gained positions and ended up in 2ed behind Nick Neri who was not in the championship running.

Final Before the final it started to rain and 20 minutes later it was declared a rain race which meant rain tires. We where the 3rd class to go out, so we had to thrash to make the necessary changes to run in the rain we where using old rain tires from stars which I thought would work out better than new ones do to the track conditions. I started on pole for the final because Nick didn't what to interfere with the championship race. When the race finally started I had the lead going thought the shi-kane and coming out I must have hit a some standing water or something and spun out. I got back going around second to last and slowly work my way thought the field all the way up to second right behind the leader and championship competitor Jacob Duvall. Coming to the white flag after the shi-kane Jacob got a little loss which gave me the chance to drive under him and take the WIN! And CHAMPIONSHIP !!

Once again I'd like to thank all my sponsors and people that helped me this whole season Rysa Racing, Dave and Marty from TS-Racing, Race-sport karting, Switch racing engines, Corey and Dennis Reeves, and last but not least my mom and dad.
