Cody Johnson Racing
June 2007 South Florida Rotax Series Race
June 2007 Homestead, Florida Rotax South Race Not our favorite track but it's where most of the best Rotax Jr's in the country race in the Rotax series and so we find ourselves making the six hour drive to race there.
Thanks to Donald at Advanced Karting Cody has moved up from his CRG Kali to a Arrow B-Max and it's one sweet kart. The kart is so easy to tune and going from a 40mm axle to a 50 mm axle has proved to be a move well worth taking. The 40 mm axle I believe flexed to muck with the power of the Rotx Jr motor, 40 mm is fine for KT 100 or HPV but not the 125 Rotax motor.
We got to Homestead Fri. mid morning and got a few laps practice in on very old Mojo tires. Saturday we where up early and got a full days practice once again on old Mojo tires so it was hard to judge how he was doing as most of the other kids where on newer tires.
Sunday, race day, Cody qualified 11 out of 18 very good Rotax Jr's; not bad for our first real race with the new Arrow Kart. Prefinal Cody went from 11th place to 8th place and we where feeling very good about a top 5 in the finals. Unfortunately the rain came and the final race of the day was canceled. It was a very good outing on a very tough track to drive and survive for Cody's first race with the Arrow. We look forward to the next two South Rotax races and the next two North Series Rotax races all in the month of July.
